The mission of the Vanceburg Health Department is to make Lewis County a safer and healthier place to live and work.
In April 1958, H.M. Bertram, Sr., Flossie Bertram, Elwood Esham, and Ruth Esham sold a parcel of land to Lewis County, Kentucky, for $3,000. This property, located near Town Branch Road along the easterly right-of-way of Kentucky Highway 59, became the site of the county’s first health department. Established to meet the growing needs of the community, the facility provided essential public health and environmental services to protect and promote the well-being of Lewis County residents.
In 2006, with the support of grant funding and local health tax revenues, a new and expanded facility was constructed. Designed by Ralph Jordan and his team, the current building was developed to accommodate the full scope of modern public health and environmental services. Today, the Lewis County Health Department is located at 185 Commercial Drive in Vanceburg, Kentucky.
The Lewis County Health Department remains committed to delivering efficient, effective, and personalized services that reflect the unique needs of our community. We strive to ensure services are accessible and affordable, supported by knowledgeable and compassionate staff dedicated to promoting health, connecting individuals to resources, and improving overall quality of life.
